Courtney Allen, PhD

Courtney Allen holds a PhD in sociology from the University of Washington; her dissertation explored the structural roots of health stratification by examining hospital access, mortality rates, and social resistance during and after hospital desegregation in the American South during the 1960s. Drawing from her interdisciplinary training in sociology, demography, and public health, she employs quantitative, demographic, and mixed-methods to investigate structural mechanisms of population health inequities in both historical and contemporary settings. As a Bell Fellow, Allen is extending her work to investigate how historical processes contribute to contemporary landscapes of social and racial inequalities.
